
Football Earns 24-14 Win Over Wagner on Homecoming
CCSU moves to 3-0 at home this season.
The Central Connecticut football team gave up a touchdown to visiting Wagner College on the Seahawks first play from scrimmage, but then held the visiting Northeast Conference team to just one score the remainder of the game for a 24-14 Homecoming Game victory on Saturday. The Blue Devils improve to 4-5 overall and2-1 in league play, while the Seahawks fall to 4-6 on the season at 2-2 in league action.
The Blue Devil defense allowed just 205 total yards of offense, holding the Seahawks to 24 yards of rushing on the afternoon. CCSU recorded 10 tackles for a loss of yards and had six sacks. Additionally, the Blue Devils recored eight quarter back hurries on the day.
Dan Toatley finished with 4.5 TFL for CCSU including 3.5 sacks amongts his five tackles and two hurries.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Seahawks would score on their first play from scrimmage, an 81-yard pass to Rickey Spruill from Jake Cady
- Brady Olson had a 10-yard scramble for a score to cap a 10-play 63 yard drive that took nearly five minutes off the clock. Ricky Ortega scrambled to convert a fourth down and keep the drive alive.
- Jalen Howard and Dan Toatley combined for a sack on third down and drove Wagner back 21 yards to force a punt. Central would cap a 12-yard drive that took over six minutes with a 30-yard field goal by Jack Barnum to make it a 10-7 lead for Central.
- CCSU scored heading into halftime capping off a 54-yard drive. A 25-yard completion to a diving Michael Plaskon at the Wagner 15 would set up a 8-yard run two plays later for Elijah Howard into the endzone to make it 17-7.
- The teams traded touchdown scoring drives to open the fourth quarter. Wagner capped a 78-yard drive with a 13 yard run by Spruill to cut the CCSU lead to a field goal. On the ensuing drive, the Blue Devils covered 75 yards in just under seven minutes. CCSU converted a long third down to keep the drive alive before a 17-yard pass from Olson to Joe Crifasi pushed the lead back to 10 points with 5:23 to play.

NOTES
- CCSU leads the all-time series, 20-16.
- The Blue Devils had three players score a touchdown on Saturday, with rushing scores from Olson and Howard and a passing score where Olson connected with Crifasi to put the game away.
- Six Blue Devils caught a pass on Saturday, led by four apiece from Plaskon and Isaac Boston. Marsh had a team-high 42 yards receiving.
- Malachai Wright led the defense with nine tackles, 1.5 TFL, a sack and a forced fumble.
- Six different defenders had at least one hurry of the Wagner QB on Saturday.
- Jalin Justice recorded a game-high 12 tackles for Wagner.
- Central had a 33:10-26:50 edge in time of possession in the win, including 9:01 of possession in the final quarter.
- The Blue Devils were 7-15 on third down conversions and a perfect 2-2 on fourth down attempts.
- Wagner was just 3-11 on third down attempts.
