Challenge this season.
Universities and colleges from around the nation will wage a
friendly competition to see who can reduce, reuse and recycle the
most waste. The amount of waste generated and recycled will
determine which school is the greenest. Winners will be recognized
for several categories including: least amount of waste generated
per attendee, greatest greenhouse gas reductions, highest recycling
rate, highest organics reduction rate (i.e., food donation and
composting) and highest combined recycling and composting rate.
Paper, beverage containers, cardboard boxes and mixed recyclable
materials will be given special attention. In addition, Coca Cola
will have displays and assist in the collections.
Fans will be encouraged to dispose of all clean paper goods and
other materials with the help of CCSU staff.
At the end of the day, the collected materials will be weighed and
the day's totals sent to the EPA.
The Game's Goals are
to:
• Lower the waste generated
• Increase participation by students, faculty, staff, and the
community
• Heighten awareness of waste reduction programs
To help in reaching the goals, staff will be providing assistance
during pre-game events in the parking lot and tailgating
activities. Food services will also be watched to make sure the
proper materials are recycled. CCSU aides will be visible during
the game in the seating areas.
CCSU has been in the forefront of sustainability activities and
continues its commitment to a better environment by its
participation in the Game Day Challenge.
