Blue Devils Sweep St. Francis (NY) On Senior Day
Senior captain Amanda Olmstead recorded 12 kills and six digs, while junior Jamie Baumert tallied 11 kills and eight blocks as the Central Connecticut (10-12, 4-2) volleyball team swept St. Francis (NY) (0-29, 0-5), 3-0, on Senior Day at Detrick Gymnasium. Senior captains Olmstead and Jenna Quadrozzi, as well as senior manager Laura Baker were honored before the match on Saturday.

After being down early in the first set, the Blue Devils first took the lead at 9-8 on a kill by freshman Sara DeLacey. CCSU went on a 7-1 run to increase the lead to 14-9 and never relinquished it. Baumert was integral in the stretch, providing three blocks and a klil for the Blue Devils. An attack error on St. Francis ended the first set with Central taking it 25-14. Sophomore setter Amanda Bayer recorded eight assists and four digs, while Baumert finished with three kills and three blocks in the opening set.
The second set started off differently, with CCSU going on a 15-1 run. The Blue Devils tallied thirteen straight points off of serves from Bayer. The Allen, TX native also managed four assists during the stretch. Bayer finished off the set with a kill to take the second set 25-6 and give the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead over the Terriers. Baumert led Central with five blocks in the second set alone, while Bayer finished with nine assists and three digs.
CCSU got down early again in the third set as St. Francis led 6-5. The Blue Devils rattled off four straight points to take a 9-6 lead that they never gave back. Quadrozzi served Central to three straight points including a service ace. CCSU went on to defeat St. Francis 25-16 in the third set and take the match, 3-0. Olmstead and Baumert led Central in the final set with seven and six kills, respectively.
Olmstead's 12 kills in the match came on a terrific .440 hitting percentage. She also finished with one block, one ace, one assist and six digs in her last regular season home match as a Blue Devil. Baumert also hit very efficiently, recording a hitting percentage of .400. Bayer finished with a match-best 32 assists and a team high nine digs. Quadrozzi tallied one kill, one ace and tied a career-best four digs in her final regular season home match at CCSU.
Senior Diana Colon led St. Francis with seven kills and added six digs. Sophomore Liliana Rodriguez led the Terriers on defense with 12 digs.
CCSU improves to 4-2 in NEC play and will finish off their
regular season schedule with road matches against St. Francis (PA)
and Robert Morris on November 8 and 9. St. Francis (NY) falls to
0-5 in NEC action and will next play at Quinnipiac on November 9 at
1:00 p.m.
