Blue Devils Fall to URI in Five Sets
The Central Connecticut volleyball team took the University of Rhode Island to five sets and eventually fell to the Rams, 3-2, Tuesday night at Detrick Gymnasium. Senior captain Amanda Olmstead recorded her third double-double of the season in the loss, tallying 12 kills and 12 digs.

The Blue Devils started out slow, losing the first set 20-25, but bounced back with victories in sets two and three. Rhode Island would then rally to win the final two sets of the match and defeat CCSU and move to 8-8 on the season.
Junior Jamie Baumert led the Blue Devils with 13 kills and a match high seven blocks. Sophomore setter Amanda Bayer led all players in the match with 43 assists, while adding 10 digs and four blocks. Sophomores Lauren Snyder and Kaitlin Petrella led the CCSU defense with 14 and 12 digs, respectively. Sophomore Maite Mendizabal had a solid all-around match, recording nine kills, seven digs and three blocks.
The Rams were led by junior Caitlyn Welsh's 14 kill and 14 digs performance. Sophomore Lindsay Lytle recorded a team high 41 assists and added seven digs. Senior libero Peggy Doino led all players in the match with 16 digs.
Rhode Island will next host Saint Louis on Friday October 10 at
7:00 p.m. CCSU falls to 4-10 on the season and will next play host
to Long Island when the Blackbirds come to New Britain on Saturday
October 11 for a 1:00 p.m. match.
