CCSU Falls in Five Sets to Sacred Heart
The Central Connecticut volleyball team took Sacred Heart University to five sets before falling 15-10 in the final measure. The Blue Devils got off to a slow start, losing the first two sets. After clawing their way back to a 2-2 tie in sets, CCSU was finished off when the Pioneers scored four straight points to win the match.

Senior captain Amanda Olmstead led the Blue Devils with 15 kills, on .379 hitting percentage, and 10 digs. Junior Jamie Baumert had an incredible nine blocks to go along with her seven kills (.278 hitting percentage). Sophomore setter Amanda Bayer led CCSU in assists with 40 and chipped in with a team high 10 digs. Sophomore Lauren Snyder had a solid overall match, finishing with 13 kills, eight digs and two service aces.
Sacred Heart got up early on the Blue Devils when freshman Ashlyn Trimble recorded six of her 16 kills in the first set. In the second set it was fellow freshman Maile Herthington who led the way with six of her match high 19 kills. Sophomore setter Courtney Kidd-Kadlubek led all players in the match with 50 assists, while chipping in eight digs. Pioneer freshman Jessica Colberg tallied 15 digs in the win.
CCSU falls to 3-9 on the season and will try to end their losing streak on the road against Hartford on Wednesday October 1 at 7:00 p.m. The Blue Devils will then get two at home when they host URI and Northeast Conference foe, Long Island. Sacred Heart improves to 11-4 this year and will next be hosting St. Peters on Wednesday October 1 at 7:00 p.m.
