Blue Devils Tops Wagner 161-139, Set Six Pool Records on Saturday on Staten Island
CCSU posts eight first place finishes in dual meet victory
The Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team posted a 161-139 victory on the road at Wagner College on Saturday afternoon, posting eight first place finishes on the day. The Blue Devils also set six pool records during the meet. Sophomore Maddy Garber won three races and classmate Lauren Rasile won a pair of races on the afternoon.
Rasile's wins came in the 200 yard freestyle and the 50 yard freestyle. Garber won the 100 breaststroke, the 200 breaststroke and the 200 yard individual medley.
Garber set a pair of pool records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Freshman Aidan Devers set one in the 200 backstroke, Lauren Rasile in the 200 freestyle, junior Christine Rasile in the 100 freestyle and the Blue Devils also set a pool record in the 400 freestyle relay.
The Blue Devils opened the day with a second and third place finish in the 200 yard medley relay. Wagner won the event in 1:45.97, but the team of freshman Kaitlyn Troy, Garber, junior Sabree Thomas and Christine Rasile was second in 1:46.74.
Lauren Rasile posted the first win of the afternoon for CCSU in the 200 yard freestyle with a pool record time of 1:52.63. She narrowly beat out Christine Rasile (1:53.39) and sophomore Lauren Czulewicz gave the Blue Devils a 1-2-3 finish with a time of 1:55.84.
Central placed second and third in the 100 yard backstroke as Devers finished in 59.16 and Troy came in at 59.70.
Garbers first win of the day came in the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:04.69. It was a pool record. Senior Alaina Papiro was third (1:05.91) and Demers was fourth (1:07.69).
Central placed second and third in the 200 yard butterfly as junior Lisa Ward was second in 2:11.17 and Thomas placed third in 2:11.29. Lauren Rasile won her second race of the day with a time of 24.30 in the 50 yard freestyle.
Senior Kaitlyn Beaver placed second in the 1 meter diving event and freshman Brianna Buehler was third. Beaver's score was 203.97, while Buehler came in at 182.25.
The Blue Devils posted their second 1-2-3 finish of the day in the 100 yard freestyle. Christine Rasile placed first in 51.87, a pool record, while Lauren Czulewicz and Lauren Rasile tied for second in 53.83.
Devers placed first in the 200 yard backstroke with a pool record time of 2:04.57. Sophomore Maeve Awiszus was third (2:10.55).
Garber won her second event of the afternoon, and set her second school record, in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:20.33, more than three seconds ahead of the second place finisher. Freshman Kailey Demers was third at 2:24.78 and Papiro was fourth in 2:26.58.
Devers finished second in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:15.59 and Thomas was second in the 100 yard butterfly in a time of 59.01. Ward finished fourth in the same event in 59.81.
Beaver placed third in the 3 meter diving event with a score of 204.45 and sophomore Annmarie Durham was fourth with a score of 199.35.
Garber's third win came in the 200 yard individual medley in a time of 2:10.71. Ward was second in the same event in 2:11.87.
The Blue Devils took first and third in the final event of the day, the 400 yard freestyle relay, to capped the victory. The team of Lauren Czulewicz, Lauren Rasile, Christine Rasile and Papiro finished first with a time of 3:32.25, setting the sixth pool record of the day for the Blue Devils. Devers, Thomas, Awiszus and junior Julia St. Pierre finished third in 3:42.73.
