New Hampshire Tops Women's Swimming and Diving on Saturday
Garber wins twice and adds relay win in first home meet of the season
The Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team dropped a 158-142 decision to visiting New Hampshire in Jack Suydam Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. The meet was the first at home for the Blue Devils this season.
Sophomore Maddy Garber won the 100 yard breaststroke and 200 yard breaststroke and added a victory in the 200 yard medley relay for the Blue Devils in the loss. Garber and freshman Kaitlyn Troy and juniors Lisa Ward and Christine Rasile combined to win the relay to open the meet.
Central swept the two diving events as sophomore Annemarie Durham won the 1 meter event and senior Kaitlyn Beaver won the 3 meter event. Durham was second in the 3 meter and Beaver was second in the 1 meter event. Durham posted a score of 216.07 to top Beaver's 209.32 in the 1 meter. Beaver posted a score of 199.50 in the 3 meter while Dunham had a score of 197.70.
In the second swimming event freshman Aidan Devers finished third in the 1,650 yard freestyle with a time of 18:22.21. She was followed by senior Reyna Zascirinskis who came in with a time of 18:36.16, good for fourth place.
Sophomore Lauren Czulewicz finished second in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.61, just ahead of teammate Christine Rasile, a junior, who had a time of 1:57.26.
Troy finished second in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 59.80. Sophomore Maeve Awiszus was fourth (1:01.30) and junior Stephanie Czulewicz was fifth (1:02.31).
Garber finished first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:04.03, 3.5 seconds ahead of senior teammate Alaina Papiro (1:07.53). Freshman Kailey Demers was fourth with a time of 1:08.58.
Junior Lisa Ward finished second in the 200 yard butterfly in 2:11.23.
Christine Rasile won the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.73, just .11 seconds faster than Lauren Rasile, a sophomore. Lauren Rasile was second in the 100 free with a time of 54.25.
Devers finished second in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:07.84. Garber won her second race, the 200 breaststroke, with a time of 2:20.38. Demers was third in a time of 2:27.23.
Ward finished second in the 100 yard fly in 59.53. Junior Sabree Thomas was third in the race with a time of 1:00.21.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday night, Nov. 6, hosting Bryant University.
