CCSU Sits in Second After Day Three at NEC Swimming and Diving Championship
Blue Devils set meet record in the 400 medley relay to end the night
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team sits in second place after the third day of the 2016 Northeast Conference Swimming and Diving Championships on Friday night at MIT. Central has 505 teams points and trails Wagner who sits in first with 510 points.
The Blue Devils ended the night with a new meet record in the 400 medley relay. The win, in a time of 3:43.18, took more than a second off the record set last year, also by CCSU. The win in the final event of the night gave the Blue Devils 40 points. It also set a new school record.
Bryant is third overall with 347 points, followed by St. Francis U (310), LIU Brooklyn (296), Sacred Heart (133), Mount St. Mary's (105) and St. Francis Brooklyn (90).
To begin the night freshman Aidan Devers finished second in the 400 individual medley to begin the night for the Blue Devils. She recorded a time of 4:25.18 in the event and earned 17 points. Junior Stephanie Czulewicz was fourth in a time of 4:29.62 and earned another 15 points for the Blue Devils.
Sophomore Katie MacDonnell finished 12th overall and fourth in the B Final of the 400 IM to give the Blue Devils five more points.
Junior Sabree Thomas finished fourth in the 100 butterfly in a time of 55.83, earning 15 points. Junior Lisa Ward was 11th overall and third in the B final of the butterfly and earned six points.
Junior Christine Rasile posted her second individual victory of the meet with a time of 1:48.76 and a first place finish in the 200 yard freestyle. Her time set a new school record. Sophomore Lauren Czulewicz was third in the same event in a time of 1:50.52 as the pair combined for 36 points.
Sophomore Lauren Rasile was ninth overall and first in the B final with a time of 1:52.21, good for nine points. Senior Reyna Zascirinskis finished 13th overall (1:55.11) and freshman Grace Moriarty was 16th overall (1:59.39).
Sophomore Maddy Garber posted a second place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.81, giving the Blue Devils 17 points. Senior Alaina Papiro was fourth in the same event with a time of 1:03.01, earning another 15 points for the Blue Devils.
Freshman Kailey Demers finished 10th overall and second in the B final with a time of 1:05.25.
Freshman Kaitlyn Troy finished third in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.84 while sophomore Maeve Awiszus was eighth in a time of 58.39. The pair combined for 27 points in the event.
Central took second and third in the 1 meter diving event as senior Kaitlyn Beaver (226.25) and sophomore Annemarie Durham (204.10) finished second and third respectively, giving the Blue Devils 33 points in the event.
The Blue Devils claimed first place in the 400 medley relay to end the night. Troy, Thomas, Garber and Christine Rasile set the new meet record by swimming 3:43.18, taking over a second off the old meet record, set a year ago by the Blue Devils. It also set a new school record.
The meet will complete on Saturday with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals beginning at 6 p.m. at MIT.
