Swimming Opens Season With 129-96 Win Over LIU Post
Garber wins twice as Blue Devils open season with win
The Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team opened its 2015-16 season with a 129-96 win on the road vs. LIU Post on Saturday. The Blue Devils claimed wins in six events, including a pair by sophomore Maddy Garber.
Garber won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:05.98. She was followed closely by senior Alaina Papiro (1:08.30) and freshman Kailey Demers (1:08.63) to help Central take the top three spots.
Garber and Demers finished 1-2 in the 200 yard breaststroke with times of 1:23.79 and 2:27.76, respectively. Junior Stephanie Czulewicz placed third in a time of 2:38.72.
Sophomore Lauren Czulewicz won the 200 yard freestyle in a time of 1:57.96, just ahead of junior Christine Rasile (1:59.36). Senior Reyna Zasirinskis and junior Julia St. Pierre finished in 2:04.94 and 2:06.27, respectively, to place fourth and fifth.
Senior Selene Chilton won the 500 yard freestyle in 5:17.43. Freshman Kaitlyn Troy finished in 5:26.54 to place third and Zasirinskis was fourth in 5:28.22.
Freshman Aidan Devers won the 1000 yard freestyle in a time of 10:41.14 and sophomore Katie Macdonnell was third in 11:04.24. Stephanie Czulewicz was fourth in 11:34.76.
The Blue Devils had the top two teams in the 400 yard Medley Relay. CCSU 'A' won in 3:59.02 and was made up of Troy, Garber, junior Lisa Ward and Lauren Czulewicz. The CCSU 'B' finished in 4:07.69 and was made up of sophomore Maeve Awiszus, Demers, junior Sabree Thomas and St. Pierre.
Central hosts New Hampshire on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 2:00 p.m.
