Turley Repeats As NEC Defensive Player Of The Week
CCSU's junior goalkeeper, Nicki Turley, picked up her third NEC Defensive Player of the Week award on Monday afternoon after collecting eight saves in a 2-1 setback to 20th ranked UConn on Friday night.
Junior goalkeeper, Nicki Turley, of the Central Connecticut women's soccer team was named the NEC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the second consecutive week, the Northeast Conference front office announced on Monday afternoon. It also marks the third time the junior stopper has earned this award in the past four weeks.
Although the Blue Devils fell, 2-1, to intrastate foe and 20th ranked UConn on Friday night, Turley was a force between the pipes for CCSU to earn the weekly honor. In total she saw 20 shots taken by the Huskies in the match and saved eight of the 10 that were put on frame. Several key saves came on point blank opportunities, including a critical diving stop just before halftime to keep the match scoreless heading into the locker room.
The Henrietta, NY product and 2014 NEC Goalkeeper of the Year now sports a 3-2-1 overall record in goal for Central with a NEC league-leading 1.36 goals against average on the season.
Turley and the Blue Devils go on a 13-day hiatus until they return to action with their first Northeast Conference match at home on Sunday, October 4 against LIU Brooklyn. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m. Admission to all women's soccer regular-season home games is free of charge and all of the action is also availiable online, for free, at NECFrontRow.com.
