Cafferky named UWS East Defensive Player of the Week
Blue Devil standout will begin her junior season in 2016.
Jennifer Cafferky of the Central Connecticut women's soccer team was named United Women's Soccer East Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in last weekend's game. Cafferky, who was named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year in each of her first two years, helped the New England Mutiny to a 2-1 win over the Long Island Rough Riders on July 9.
Cafferky has played in four games for the Mutiny this season, emerging as an integral cog in the squad's defensive unit. After allowing a goal in the 13th minute of play, Cafferky and the rest of New England's defense proceeded to shut down the Rough Riders the rest of the way en route to a 2-1 win.
Cafferky has been a standout defender as a part of a Blue Devils' back four that has been tops in the NEC, surrendering 39 goals in 38 games over the past two seasons, including just 15 over 17 games in 2015. As a sophomore she started all 14 games that she appeared in and helped the Blue Devils outscore their opponents 21-12 in those games. She also chipped in offensively in 2015 with a pair of goals.
In addition to her consecutive NEC Defensive Player of Year awards, she was named to the NSCAA All-Northeast Region Third Team in 2015. The 2014 NEC Rookie of the Year, she has been named All-NEC First Team in each of her first two seasons.
