CCSU Women's Hoops Falls at Home to LIU Brooklyn
Blue Devils will be back in action on Saturday on the road at Mount St. Mary's at 4:30 p.m.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team dropped a 59-45 decision at home to LIU Brooklyn on Monday afternoon in Detrick Gym. The loss moves the Blue Devils to 3-10 overall and 0-2 in Northeast Conference play on the year. The Blackbirds are now 4-9 overall and 2-0 in league play.
Senior TeJahne Malone led the Blue Devils with 12 points and eight rebounds, she was 5-of-10 from the field and also had a pair of steals.
Central led 13-9 at the end of the first quarter, but the Blackbirds outscored the Blue Devils 22-8 in the second quarter to take a 31-21 lead at the half. The Blue Devils shot just 8-of-22 from the field and 2-of-8 from three in the first half while the Blackbirds hit on 10-of-26 from the field and hit three threes.
The Blackbirds extended their lead to 46-32 at the end of the third quarter as the Blue Devils continued to struggle offensively. Central trailed by as many as 17, but climbed back to within six in the quarter, 51-45, with 1:50 left in the game.
LIU Brooklyn answered by scoring the final eight points of the game, including six free-throws, to come away with the 59-45 win.
The Blue Devils shot just 18-of-50 from the field and hit on just 5-of-19 from three-point land in the loss. They turned the ball over 19 times which led to 15 Blackbird points.
Malone led the Blue Devils with 12 points and eight boards. Senior Kayla Miller added eight points and seven rebounds while sophomore Camden Musgrave added eight points and four assists. Freshman Kiana Patterson had eight points and five assists.
The Blackbirds were led by Shanovia Dove who had a game-high 19 points and four rebounds. Stylz Sanders added 12 points and four rebounds in the win.
