Women's Basketball Faces Penn State Sunday At 2 PM
The CCSU women's basketball team heads to University Park, PA to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team travels to University Park, PA to face-off with the Penn State Nittany Lions in their second of three-straight road games on Sunday. The Blue Devils (1-2) and Nittany Lions (2-1) are both looking to rebound after tough losses. CCSU fell at Army on Thursday, 81-52, and Penn State dropped a 74-66 decision at No. 4 Tennessee on Wednesday. Tune into GOPSUNOW to follow all of the action starting at 2 p.m.

Today • The Central Connecticut women's basketball team (1-2) travels to University Park, PA to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions (2-1) inside the Bryce Jordan Center. The Blue Devils are coming off a tough 81-52 setback at Army on Thursday night, while the Nittany Lions are also coming off a tough loss, 74-66, at Tennessee. The Blue Devils are yet to win on the road and Penn State is undefeated inside the Bryce Jordan Center so far this season. Tip-off for today's contest is 2 p.m.
Series History • Today's game marks the first ever meeting between these two programs in their respective histories. It also marks the first of two games for the Blue Devils this season against BIG 10 opponents. CCSU will take on Maryland later this season on the road on Dec. 5.
Last Time Out • Central fell to Army on the road, 81-52, on Thursday night in Christl Arena. The Blue Devils turned the ball over 28 times, resulting in 30 points off turnovers for the Black Knights. Freshman Kiana Patterson led the Blue Devils against Army sinking a team-high 13 points in just 17 minutes of action. Junior Aleah Epps also finished in double-figures with 11 and chipped in five assists. CCSU shot 34.0% (17-50) to Army's 45.0% (27-60) from the field and the Blue Devils were out-rebounded 44-31, including 16-9 on the offensive end.
Home Openers • With a 64-53 victory over UMass Lowell on Tuesday, the Blue Devils move to 6-3 over the past nine seasons in home openers under the direction of Beryl Piper. They have also won five of their last six home openers in Detrick Gymnasium dating back to the 2010-11 season.
Miller and Malone • Seniors Kayla Miller and TeJahne Malone each recorded double-doubles in CCSU's victory on Tuesday night over UML. They each matched each others totals with 13 points and 10 rebounds a piece. The duo share the honor for recording the first double-double of the 2015-16 season by a Blue Devil.
Considine Start • With sophomore Camden Musgrave out with a concussion the past two games, classmate Caitland Considine stepped in and made her first career starts as a Blue Devil on Tuesday and Thursday night. In those two game she has 13 points and five assists in 46 minutes of action.
2015-16 Roster • The Blue Devils' roster will feature 10 returning players for the 2015-16 season. All 10 saw game action during the 2014-15 campaign. The squad will also feature four new faces as head coach Beryl Piper and the Blue Devils welcome four freshmen. The 14 player roster will feature three seniors, three juniors, four sophomores, and four true freshmen.
Piper Tops The List • Beryl Piper begins her ninth season as the head coach of the CCSU women's basketball program as the winningest Division I coach in the history of the program. Piper's 113 wins are tops during CCSU's Division I era, as is her .465 career winning percentage.
Double-Digit Victories • With 19 wins last season CCSU has posted double-digit wins in seven straight seasons for the first time in program history. The 2012-13 team's 16 wins gave the Blue Devils five straight double-digit win seasons for the first time in the Division I era. The program also had a five-year run at the Division II level between 1975 and 1980.
