Women's Hoop Faces Hartford For Intrastate Showdown Wednesday Night
The CCSU women's basketball team heads down the road to the University of Hartford to take on the Hawks in a non-conference battle Wednesday night.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team (1-5) heads down the road to the University of Hartford to take on the Hawks (3-3) for an intrastate showdown Wednesday night inside Chase Arena at the Reich Family Pavilion in West Hartford, CT. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. and tickets can be purchased here or at the box office upon entry. For fans who cannot attend, all of the action can be seen live, for free, on AmericaEast.TV.

Tonight • The Central Connecticut women's basketball team (1-5) looks to snap a four-game losing streak as they head down the road to West Hartford, CT to take on intrastate rival Hartford (3-3) inside Chase Arena. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. and all of the action can be seen on AmericaEast.TV. Central is 0-4 on the road this season while Hartford sports a 2-0 mark at home.
Previously For Both Teams • The Blue Devils are coming off a tough 64-50 setback to New Hampshire on Sunday afternoon at home, while the Hawks are coming off an 83-47 loss on the road to Michigan last Friday.
Series History (8-20) • Tonight's game marks the 29th meeting all-time between the Blue Devils and Hawks at the Division I level. Hartford holds a commanding 20-8 edge in the series, including a 75-63 victory last season in New Britain in the Blue Devils' 2014-15 Home Opener on Nov. 17. Prior to that meeting, Central topped UHart 82-50 inside Chase Arena on Nov. 26, 2013. Head coach Beryl Piper is 2-3 all-time against the Hawks over the past eight seasons.
Last Time Out • The Blue Devils suffered a 64-50 setback to the New Hampshire Wildcats at home last Sunday. The Blue Devils were limited to 37.8% (17-45) shooting form the floor, including 26.3% (5-19) from beyond the arc, while UNH hit for 44.7% (21-47) from the field but just 16.7% (2-12) from three. Sophomores Camden Musgrave and Emma Stroyan led the way for the Blue Devils in the game with 12 points a piece. CCSU was out-rebounded 35-22 in the contest. Senior TeJahne Malone had a team-high five boards and leads the Blue Devils this season with 40 total rebounds (6.7 rpg).
Last Season's Meeting • The Hawks entered Detrick Gym and walked away with a 75-63 victory in the Blue Devils' 2014-15 Home Opener. Hartford controlled play and the score for the majority of the contest and were paced by Amber Bepko who dropped a game-high 20 points.
Scouting the Hawks • The Hawks enter tonight's game with a 3-3 record. They score 57.0 ppg on average and are led by Deanna Mayza who averages 15.7 ppg. Mayza leads the team in three point field goals made with 11, doing much of her damage from beyond the arc and she also runs the offense averaging 3.8 apg. Alyssa Reaves controls the glass for the Hawks leading the team with 5.5 rpg. Central will also have to keep an eye on Katelyn Skinner who appears to be the Hawks sharpshooter as almost three quarters of her field goal attempts (28/40) have come from distance. She has made 10, good for 35.7%.
Three-Straight Against AE • Tonight's duel with Hartford marks the third-straight game for the Blue Devils against an America East opponent. CCSU has dropped the previous two consecutive games against AE opponents, falling 64-50 to UNH and and 62-42 to Maine.
CCSU vs. America East • Tonight's game also marks the fifth and final game this season against an AE opponent through the first seven games of the season for the Blue Devils. CCSU is 1-3 against the AE this season. They opened the 2015-16 campaign with a 79-63 loss at Vermont, but followed it up with 64-53 win over UMass Lowell before dropping their last two to UNH and Maine.
Road Rage • The Blue Devils open the 2015-16 season playing six of their first eight games on the road. Last Tuesday's game at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor, ME ended a tough three-game road swing for the Blue Devils and marked the fourth road contest in five games to start the year. Central is currently 0-4 on the road heading into tonight's game at UHart and will continue away from home with a trip to Maryland next.
Up Next For CCSU • Central will travel down to College Park, MD this Saturday, Dec. 5 to take on the No. 5 nationally ranked team in the nation, and BIG 10 member, Maryland. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. inside the XFINITY Center.
