Babe Scores 30, But CCSU Falls
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to Quinnipiac by a score of 82-73 on Monday night.
Senior Jaclyn Babe went for 30 points, but Central Connecticut fell to Quinnipiac by a score of 82-73. Babe scored 21 of her 30 points in the second half, including 11 over the first six minutes of the period.
A 17-9 run by the Blue Devils (11-8, 5-3 NEC) including, 11 points from Jaclyn Babe helped the Blue Devils take control of the game following half time. CCSU jumped on the Bobcats over the first six minutes of the second half to take a 45-41 lead.
The Bobcats (17-2, 8-0 NEC) responded and were able to regain the lead mid-way through the period. Quinnipac was able to overtake the Blue Devils largely because of three three-pointers and 15 second half free throws. The Bobcats also grabbed 15 offensive rebounds in the second half.
CCSU breifly grabbed the lead with 6:31 left in the second period on a pair of free throws by Jaclyn Babe, but Quinnipiac scored the next ten points to take the lead for good.
The Blue Devils continued to battle down the stretch, but Quinnipiac was able to hold its' lead.
A jumper by Jaclyn Babe got the Blue Devils on the board and cut Quinnipiac's early lead to 5-2. The Bobcats followed with a three to take an 8-2 lead, but CCSU's offense came to life and tied the game at 12-12 on a three by junior Jessica Babe with 12:31 left in the half.
After a Quinnipiac basket, junior Lauren Arbogast tied the score again, but the Bobcats built a small lead and took control of the scoreboard for the remainder of the period.
Quinnipiac's biggest lead over the remainder of the period was eight points, but the Blue Devils cut the deficit to five heading into half time on a free throw by Jessica Babe and a layup by senior Kirsten Daamen.
Jaclyn Babe's 30 points are the second highest total of her career. Babe also had seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.
Daamen finished with 10 points, six rebounds, three assists and three blocks.
Also in double-digits was Jessica Babe who finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds. She also had five assists and two steals. The game was Babe's first double-double of the season.
Arbogast added six points and five rebounds in 26 minutes off the bench. Junior Jaleen Thomas also scored six points in the game.
Quinnipiac's advantage on the scoreboard came from 29 points off the bench, compared to 8 for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils return to action on Saturday at Fairleigh Dickinson.
