Women's Basketball Falls at Miami
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to Miami by a score of 64-43
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team fell to Miami by a score of 64-43 in an opening round game of the 2012 UM Holiday Tournament. The Blue Devils (5-5) played better in the second period and out scored the Hurricanes (9-2) 26-25 after halftime. Central will play Delaware State in the consolation game tomorrow night at 5 p.m. Miami will play Wisconsin in the championship game at 7:05 p.m.
The Blue Devils never led in the game, but did force Miami to work for the victory throughout the contest. Miami led 39-17 at the half, but Central out scored the Hurricanes in the second period 26-25.
Junior Lauren Arbogast led the way in the first period. She came off the bench to score a team-high nine points in 16 minutes on the floor. She also had two rebounds and three steals before the break. Arbogast added two more points and a rebound in four minutes of action in the second half.
In the second half senior Jaclyn Babe led the Blue Devils with 10 of her team-high 13 points. Babe connected on two-of-three from beyond the arc.
Junior Jaleen Thomas had 10 rebounds and junior Jessica Babe had eight boards. Babe also had a game-high five assists.
CCSU turned the ball over 31 times in the game, but the Blue Devils improved their ball control in the second period. Miami had 22 turnovers, including 15 steals by CCSU.
The Blue Devils struggled from the free throw line throughout the game. CCSU was 4-for-12 in the first half, 8-for-22 in the second period and 12-for-34 in the game, a 35.3% mark from the line.
Freshman Kayla Miller had four points and seven rebounds in 30 minutes of action. She also had two steals and a block.
The Blue Devils and Delaware State will play Saturday at 5 p.m.
