WBB Sets 2012-13 Non-Conference Slate
The Blue Devils will play five of the 11 non-conference games at home.
The Central Connecticut women's basketball team will open the 2012-13 season with a challenging 11 game non-conference schedule. The Blue Devils will face opponents from seven different conferences, including the Big-12 and ACC. The schedule will also include five home games.
"I am excited to be playing such a challenging non-conference schedule this season. We have managed to maintain our traditional match-ups with some of the top schools in New England, while also scheduling some teams with larger national profiles," head coach Beryl Piper said.
Entering her sixth season at the helm of the Blue Devils, Piper's squad will open play at the University of Rhode Island (Atlantic-10) on November 9. The Blue Devils will then host Massachusetts (Atlantic-10) on Nov. 13 and Hartford (America East) Nov. 16.
Following the back-to-back home games, Piper's squad will travel to Austin, Texas, to take on the University of Texas (Big-12) on Nov. 24.
The Blue Devils will play on the road at Holy Cross (Patriot) on Nov. 28 to close out the first month of the season. Then host the University of Vermont (America East) on Dec. 5 and travel to the University of New Hampshire (America East) on Dec. 9.
LaSalle (Atlantic-10) and Rider (MAAC) will visit Detrick Gym on Dec. 19 and 21, respectively. Those two contests will be the final home non-conference games of the year.
The Blue Devils will close the 2012-13 non-conference slate, by playing at the University of Miami (ACC) Tournament on Dec. 28 and 29. The Hurricanes finished last season ranked #11 in the final ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll. The final schedule for the tournament is not yet available, but in addition to the Hurricanes and Blue Devils, the field will include UCLA (Pac-12) and Delaware State (MEAC).
Piper added, "Going on the road to play at Texas and Miami will be an awesome experience for our girls. Playing teams of that caliber can only elevate our program going forward as we continue to work toward an NEC title."
