Juniors Alexis Debrosse, and Emily Sargent were honored by the Northeast Conference on Monday afternoon.
Two Central Connecticut softball juniors, Alexis Debrosse, and Emily Sargent were honored with weekly awards by the Northeast Conference as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Debrosse was named Co-Player of the Week and Sargent was tabbed Pitcher of the Week for their performances against Albany and Yale.
Debrosse, the Blue Devils' starting shortstop and lead off batter, powered Central Connecticut's offense and helped the Blue Devils to a 2-2 record last week. In one of the finest displays of power in recent NEC memory, she belted three homers, including a grand slam, as CCSU rallied from a 5-0 deficit to post a 13-5 win over Albany on Saturday. Debrosse hit .467 and slugged 1.067 for the week, and finished with six runs scored and seven RBIs.
Sargent pitched the Blue Devils to a sweep of Albany on Saturday and posted a 2-1 record with a 1.56 ERA over 18 innings for the week. She allowed four earned runs on 11 hits over her four appearances. She tossed 4.2 innings of one-hit ball in relief in Saturday's opener, holding the Great Danes scoreless as CCSU rallied from five down to secure a 13-5 victory. Sargent tossed a complete-game two-hitter in the nightcap, yielding a lone run in a 9-1, five-inning win.
The Blue Devils will open Northeast Conference play this Saturday, April 1, at Wagner for a 1:00/3:00 p.m. doubleheader at Wagner College Softball Field in Staten Island, NY. Central will then host Robert Morris on Sunday, April 2 for two games at 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
