Softball Sweeps Albany at Home on Saturday
Blue Devils take two from visiting Great Danes as offense explodes to 22 runs
The Central Connecticut softball team swept a home doubleheader vs. visiting Albany on Saturday afternoon, winning game one 13-5 in five innings and game two, 9-1, also in five innings. The win pushes Central's record to 4-12 on the season.
In game one it was junior shortstop Alexis Debrosse who had a game to remember as she homered three times and drove in seven runs for the Blue Devils. She hit a solo home run in the first inning, a grand slam in the third and a two-run shot in the fifth as the Blue Devils scored 13 unanswered runs after trailing 5-0 after the first inning.
Junior Emily Sargent picked up the win in relief as she entered the game in the first inning and did not allow a run. She pitched 4.2 innings and allowed just one hit while striking out three Albany batters.
Sophomore Kerri Dadalski had a pair of hits and hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Blue Devils the eight-run lead and end the game. Freshman Sarah Ogilvie also drove in two for the Blue Devils in the victory.
In game two Sargent pitched all five innings allowing just two hits and one run while striking out one. On the day, while earning a pair of victories, the junior pitched 9.2 innings and allowed three hits, one run and posted four strikeouts.
Sophomore Kaitlin Paterson, Ogilvie, junior Tori Constantin and junior Brittany McNulla all drove in a run for the Blue Devils in the win. The Great Danes made four errors in the field that also led four unearned for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils scored four times in the first inning and once in the third to take a 5-0 lead. Including game one it marked 18 straight runs for the Blue Devil offense before Albany scored once in the fourth inning to cut it to 5-1.
Central scored four more times in the fifth to end the game with the 9-1 score. The Blue Devils had RBI's from Paterson, McNulla and Ogilvie in the inning to secure the sweep.
Central is back in action at Boston College on Tuesday, Mar. 28 at 4 p.m.
