Softball Competes with UNCW and Georgia on Saturday
CCSU will take the field again tomorrow at 11;00 a.m. against Michigan State to conclude its Bulldog tournament schedule.
The Central Connecticut softball team was dealt two losses in its second day at the 8th Annual Bulldog Invitational at Jack Turner Statdium in Athens, GA. CCSU went seven innings with #16 Georgia Saturday afternoon, falling 8-2. Junior Alexis Debrosse was credited for a two-run double to right field in the fifth inning, that scored junior Tori Constantin, and freshman Emily Cronin.
The Blue Devils, now 0-4 on the season, will complete their tournament schedule tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. against Michigan State, who are on a six-game winning streak with a record of 11-2.
CCSU junior pitcher Emily Sargent pitched six innings and struck out three Bulldogs. After ending the first inning on a strikeout looking, Georgia responded with a five hit, five run second inning performance.
Against UNCW, an early six runs in the first inning from the UNC Wilmington Seahawks lifted them past the Central Connecticut softball team 8-0 on Saturday morning. Sargent went four innings in relief for the Blue Devils, only giving up one run on four UNCW hits.
Junior, Brittany McNulla and Debrosse both hit doubles off of UNCW's pitcher, Peyton Jordan. McNulla, the Blue Devils third batter in the lineup, rocketed a shot to center field with two down in the first. Debrosse then delivered a lead-off double down the left side of the diamond.
Debrosse was sent to third on single to shortstop from junior, Brittany Camara, but Central grounded out to head to the bottom of the second, unable to chip into UNCW's lead. The Seahawks connected for just three more hits in the following three innings, and left five runners on base.
