Nehls Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District 1 First Team
Nehls is now eligible for Academic All-America honors.
Sophomore Austin Nehls of the Central Connecticut men's basketball team was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 1 First Team it was announced Thursday. Nehls and the Blue Devils are back in action Thursday night at Fairleigh Dickinson in a 5:00 p.m. tipoff on ESPN3.
Nehls, a Finance major, has posted a cumulative 3.93 GPA and during the Fall 2016 semester he had a 4.0 GPA. On the court, Nehls has led CCSU in scoring at 14.1 points per game. He ranks second in the Northeast Conference playing 36.26 minutes per game and 2.52 three-pointers per game. Nehls is also among the Top-10 in the NEC in free throw percentage (.814, 4th) and three-point field goal percentage (.387, 5th).
Nehls has four 20-point outings on the season, including a career-high 26 points at Fordham on Dec. 21, 2016. He hit the go-ahead three-pointer with 1:17 to play in CCSU's most recent win, a 54-52 victory over NEC leader, Mount St. Mary's, on Saturday, Feb. 4. Nehls needed just 40 career games to surpass 100 career three-pointers and is currently ninth on Central's all-time list with 129 three-pointers.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
