Speech Named Co-Player of the Week
Scored career-high 23 points on Saturday
Junior guard De'Angelo Speech has been named the Northeast Conference men's basketball co-Player of the Week on Monday, it was announced by the league office. Speech and the Blue Devils have won three of four and sit at 4-7 in NEC play this season heading into tomorrow night's game at St. Francis Brooklyn.
Speech provided an unexpected lift on Saturday, scoring a career-high 23 points in 24 minutes off the bench in a 74-69 win over Sacred Heart. Speech, who hit 7-11 from the floor, including 6-8 from three-point range, scored eight points in a 16-0 second half run that turned an 11-point deficit into a 57-52 CCSU lead with 7:24 to play. The Oak Park, IL native finished with 15 points after intermission and tallied six rebounds, a block and two steals in the win.
The Blue Devils will play three times this week, including their final home game of the season on Thursday night vs. Mount St. Mary's. Central plays Tuesday at St. Francis Brooklyn, Thursday at home and Saturday at Bryant.
