Men's Basketball Falls at Northeastern

The Central Connecticut men's basketball team fell to Northeastern by a score of 83-69 on Saturday evening in the Cabot Center. The Blue Devils (0-3) will return to action on Saturday against Rider at Detrick Gym.
Redshirt freshman Khalen Cumberlander scored a career-high 20 points with 14 coming in the second half. Cumberlander was nine-of-15 from the field and two-of-three from behind the arc. His previous career-high entering today's game was five points.
The Huskies (1-2) used quality shooting to take a 39-34 lead into halftime. Northeastern connected on 16-of-30 shots (53.3%) from the floor and six-of-12 (50.0%) from behind the three-point arc.
Northeastern's Demetrius Pollard hit four three pointers in the first five minutes of play to give the Huskies an early 14-6 lead.
CCSU worked its way back into the game behind senior Terrell Allen's eight points. Allen was three-of-three from the field with a pair of three pointers in the period. He also grabbed two boards and blocked two shots in the half.
The Blue Devils were unable to overcome the slow start and trailed the entire game. Northeastern hit the first two baskets of the second half to take a 11 point lead. The Blue Devils were able to close the gap to single digits, but CCSU never got closer than a two possession game.
Senior Matt Hunter pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and added nine points. He also had four steals.
Allen finished the game with 11 points. Junior Kyle Vinales, the leading scorer for the Blue Devils through the first two games of the season, missed the game with an injury.
The Huskies shot 50.9% from the field and 52.6% from behind the three-point line for the game. CCSU shot 43.1% and 35.3% from beyond the arc.
The Blue Devils were called for 22 personal fouls, which put the Huskies on the free throw line 26 times. Northeastern connected on 17-of-26 free throws. While CCSU was just seven of 10 from the line.
The Blue Devils will host Rider on Saturday in their 2013-14 Home Opener.
