Men Fall to 0-2 in NEC Action With Loss to SFU
Drakeford and Mobley combine for 41 points
Junior Faronte Drakeford and freshman Matt Mobley combined to score 41 points on 17-of-34 shooting but the Central Connecticut men's basketball team fell to 0-2 in Northeast Conference play with a 75-67 home loss to St. Francis University on Saturday. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 4-11 overall.
Central returns to action on Thursday night hosting St. Francis Brooklyn beginning at 7 p.m. in Detrick Gym.
Mobley's 19 points were a new career-high, he played 39 minutes and was 7-of-16 from the field and hit a pair of threes. Drakeford's 22 was a game-high, as he was 10-of-18 from the field and also hit a three.
Central assisted on 16 of 27 baskets, but the Red Flash led by seven at the break and held on for the eight point win. They hit seven threes in the game, including five in the first half from Dominique Major. He finished the game with 19 points and was 5-of-8 from three. Four Red Flash players scored in double-figures, led by Earl Brown who had 18 points and 12 rebounds. He also had three blocks.
Sophomore Brandon Peel added eight points, seven rebounds and four more blocks for the Blue Devils. He leads the team with 18 on the season and has 13 on his last five games.
Mobley added four assists and a pair of steals as he put together his best game in a CCSU uniform. His previous career-high was 12 at Ohio State. He added three rebounds and was 3-of-3 from the line. Central took just 12 free-throws and made nine. The Red Flash were 20-of-30, including 18-of-25 in the second half as the Blue Devils fouled to try and get back in the game late.
Freshman Khalen Cumberlander added eight points, two assists and two steals in the loss for the Blue Devils.
Central returns to action on Thursday night at home hosting St. Francis Brooklyn at 7 p.m.
