Elmore, Pauldo Earn NEC Weekly Awards on Monday
Pair honored following win over Sacred Heart last Saturday
Central Connecticut junior captain Jevon Elmore and redshirt freshman quarterback Tavion Pauldo earned a pair of weekly Northeast Conference football awards on Monday. The pair were honored following a 26-10 road victory over two-time defending NEC Champion Sacred Heart on Saturday that helped the Blue Devils earn a share of first place with a 2-1 record.
Elmore was named the NEC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts. Pauldo earned his third Rookie of the Week honor of the season.
Elmore did a little bit of everything in the 26-10 road victory. He led the Blue Devils with a team-high 10 tackles, added three pass break-ups and blocked a field goal as the Blue Devils held the high-scoring Pioneers to just 10 points in the game. The 10 points allowed is the fewest in the game for the Blue Devils since a shutout over St. Francis U in 2008. CCSU, who won just one league game a year ago, now shares first place with a 2-1 record.
Pauldo helped guide a Blue Devil offense that scored three times after halftime to pull away from the Pioneers on Saturday. Pauldo finished the game 5-of-9 for 76 yards and a touchdown through the air, connecting with sophomore Joey Fields in the third quarter to push the Blue Devil lead to 17-3.
On their next drive Paudlo engineered a nine-play, 85-yard drive to make it 21-3 in favor of the visitors. In addition to his passing, Pauldo rushed 11 times for 47 yards in the game, helping the Blue Devils to their second straight NEC victory.
The Blue Devils are home this Saturday hosting Robert Morris at 12 noon on ESPN3.
