Dolegala Named NEC Rookie of the Week
Second player this season to win the award for the Blue Devils
Freshman quarterback Jacob Dolegala was named the Northeast Conference Football Rookie of the Week on Monday. Dolegala becomes the second Blue Devil to win the award in the first three weeks of the season, joining teammate Tavion Pauldo who won it two weeks ago.
Dolegala helped lead Central Connecticut to its first win of the season, rushing for all three of the team's touchdowns during a 21-14 victory over Bowie State. Making his second career start under center, the rookie accounted for 188 yards of total offense and scored on runs of 7, 2 and 4 yards.
Dolegala went 16-for-31 passing for 168 yards and was credited with 20 net rush yards on 13 attempts. Dolegala gained 49 yards on 10 carries, but three quarterback sacks lowered his final output.
With the game tied 14-14, Dolegala engineered a 15-play, 77-yard game-winning drive that he capped with a 4-yard scoring runt. He completed two passes for 36 yards on the final drive, including a 27-yard completion that allowed CCSU to convert a 3rd-and-20 situation.
Dolegala and the Blue Devils will be on the road for the next two weeks, playing at New Hampshire this Saturday before opening NEC play with a trip to Duquesne on Oct. 3.
