CCSU Drops Northeast Conference Doubleheader on Senior Day
Central Connecticut (7-32, 3-13) lost a Northeast Conference doubleheader versus Mount St. Mary's (15-29, 10-8) on senior day at Saint Joseph College. The Blue Devils lost the first game, 2-1, in eight innings. Junior Jaclyn Logan and sophomore Katherine Knowles each had two hits in the opener. Freshman Kelli Griffiths drove in the team's lone run with a sacrifice fly. In game two, the Blue Devils fell 11-0 in five innings. Logan had the lone hit for CCSU.

Blue Devil senior Rachel Brenneman worked out of jams in the first and second innings of game one. Junior Lisa Curreri led off the first with a double and moved to third on a grounder back to the mound, but she was stranded after a fly out and ground out ended the frame. The Mountaineers loaded the bases with infield singles from their first three batters. Brenneman induced a fly out, fielder's choice and foul out to end the threat.
Central Connecticut posted the game's first run in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore Kendall Sours led off the inning with an infield single. Logan and sophomore Katherine Knowles loaded the bases with singles to left and then right, and Griffiths drove in the run with a sacrifice fly to foul territory in left field. Mount St. Mary's had a chance to tie the game in the top of the fifth. Curreri led off with her second double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, but she was again stranded.
The Mountaineers tied the game in the top of the seventh. Senior Amanda Burk got on with a two-out infield single. She scored on a two-base error to center field off the bat of sophomore Courtney Zingle. Mount scored another unearned run in the eighth. Sophomore Nicole Reeder reached on an error and moved to second on a sac bunt. An infield single pushed her to third, and junior Katie Donovan drove her in with a single up the middle. Senior Jaime Fowler finished off her complete game effort in the bottom half. She worked around a two-out single by Logan.
Brenneman went the distance for CCSU. She scattered 11 hits and struck out two. Fowler gave up six hit while striking out eight. Curreri led four Mount players with two hits.
The Mount took a 1-0 lead on two errors in the opening frame of game two. They added 10 runs, eight of which were unearned, in the third. Zingle had a three-run double to highlight the inning. Curreri added a two-run single.
Six players had hits for Mount St. Mary's. Freshman Amanda Sadowl earned the win, throwing a one-hitter with one strikeout. Sophomore Elizabeth Montemurro took the loss for CCSU. She went 2.1 innings. Freshman Abby Harpp completed the game.
As part of senior day festivities, Brenneman, Jenna Earley and Brittany Salvatore were honored prior to the start of the doubleheader.
Central Connecticut will travel to Holy Cross on Tuesday, Apr. 28, to make-up last week's postponed doubleheader. Game one is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
