Logan Has Four-Hit Day Against Bryant, Blue Devils Lose Both Ends of Doubleheader
Central Connecticut (6-17) lost both ends of its home-opening doubleheader versus Bryant (7-23) at Saint Joseph College in West Hartford, CT. Bryant won 4-0 and 7-3. Blue Devil junior Jaclyn Logan had a double in the opener and went 3-for-4 with an RBI in game two. Sophomore Katherine Knowles and freshman Samantha Cieri each had two hits in the second game.

Logan broke up a no-hit bid by Bryant sophomore Sam Houseal with a two-out double in the bottom of the seventh inning of game one. Houseal had not allowed a runner to reach through the opening six innings. She totaled eight strikeouts in the win.
The Bulldogs put up runs in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings. The first three came off freshman starter Abby Harpp, who took the loss. Harpp was relieved by senior Rachel Brenneman with one out in the fourth inning. Brenneman completed the game, allowing an unearned run in the sixth. Brenneman finished with two strikeouts.
Bryant freshman Lauren McCart had two RBI doubles in the win.
The Bulldogs scored two unearned runs in the top of the first inning of game two. Logan did not waste any time getting back on base in the second contest. She doubled in her first at-bat, but was stranded at second.
Central Connecticut trimmed its deficit in half in the second inning. Junior Sara Budrick singled with one out. She moved to third on a single by freshman Joanna Barry and scored on a ground out by Cieri.
The Blue Devils threatened in the fifth inning. Cieri and senior Jenna Earley had back-to-back one-out singles, but Houseal, who again started for Bryant, worked out of the jam without allowing a run.
Bryant scored three times in the sixth inning to take a 5-1 lead. Logan and Knowles each singled in the bottom half of the inning, giving the Blue Devils two on with nobody out. Houseal sandwiched a lineout between two strikeouts to end any possible scoring threat. A two-run home run by Bulldog senior Anne Dobmeier in the seventh made it 7-1.
The Blue Devils scored twice in the bottom of the seventh. Logan and Knowles each had RBI singles.
Dobmeier and freshman Lindsey Martin both went 2-for-4 in the win. Houseal scattered 10 hits and struck out seven in the complete game effort. All three of her runs were unearned. Brenneman struck out seven in six innings for CCSU. She allowed five runs, three earned, on seven hits. Sophomore Elizabeth Montemurro gave up the Dobmeier home run in the seventh.
Central Connecticut will play a pair of doubleheaders this weekend. The Blue Devils travel to Quinnipiac for Northeast Conference action on Saturday, Apr. 4. Game one is slated to start at 1 p.m. They then head to Storrs, CT to take on UConn. CCSU will serve as the home team for the doubleheader against the Huskies. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
