Defending NEC Champion Football Opens Spring Practice
Spring Game will take place on Saturday, April 21 at 11 a.m.
The 2017 Northeast Conference champion Central Connecticut football team opened Spring Practice late last week in New Britain. The Blue Devils began practice on March 23 and will continue on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays through April 20. The Annual Blue-White Scrimmage will take place on Saturday, April 21 at 11 a.m. All practices are open to the public. The Blue-White Scrimmage is open to the public and features free admission.
The Blue Devils finished last season 8-4 overall and advanced to the program's first-ever trip to the NCAA Playoffs. Central posted a perfect 6-0 record in conference play and was 5-1 at home, including five straight home victories to end the season. After beginning the season 0-3 against one of the toughest FCS schedules in the country (Syracuse, Fordham, Youngstown State), the Blue Devils went on a school-record eight-game winning streak to claim their fifth NEC title and a trip to the NCAA Playoffs.
Central will open the 2018 season on the road at FBS member Ball State on August 30, before coming home for their Arute Field opener the following weekend vs. Lincoln (PA). A home game with Columbia on September 15 marks the second-straight season that an Ivy League member will visit New Britain. The Blue Devils defeated Penn at home last season 42-21.
