Senior Captain Najae Brown Named NEC Defensive Player of the Week
Led a defense that allowed just 123 total yards in Saturday's win
Senior safety Najae Brown was named the Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday, it was announced by the league office. Brown, a two-time captain for the Blue Devils, helped the Blue Devil defense spearhead a 28-10 home victory over St. Francis U on Saturday, moving the Blue Devils to 4-0 in league play this season.
A leader on the defensive unit for the Blue Devils, Brown helped the Blue Devils allow just 123 offensive yards in a 28-10 victory over St. Francis University on Saturday. The 123 yards is the fewest yards allowed to a Division I opponent since CCSU went to the Division I (IAA/FCS) level prior to the 1993 season.
Brown led a balanced defensive unit that forced four turnovers, all of which led to CCSU touchdowns, while posting his second interception of the season and recovering a fumble for a score. The Red Flash managed just eight first downs in the game (one came by penalty) to go along with 91 yards rushing, just 32 in the air, punted four times and turned the ball over four times.
Their only touchdown drive came after a Blue Devil turnover and the drive went for just 15 yards. Brown had four tackles, a drive ending interception in the second quarter that led to a 14-0 lead, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown in the fourth quarter that sealed the win. The Blue Devils forced four turnovers in the win, giving them 18 takeaways in their six game winning streak, including four or more in a game three times.
