Blue Devil Baseball Opens Northeast Conference Season With Loss at Wagner
The Central Connecticut baseball team opened the Northeast Conference season with a 10-1 loss on the road at Wagner on Friday. The game, originally scheduled for 3 p.m., did not start until 6 p.m. A short rain delay in the seventh inning halted the game. Junior Richie Tri hit a solo home run in the loss, his third of the season. With the loss CCSU falls to 9-7 overall and 0-1 in NEC play. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, also at Wagner.

The Blue Devils managed only four hits in the loss on Friday
against the Seahawks. The lone run scored on a solo home run in
the third inning by Tri.
Freshman right hander Todd Savatsky picked up the loss on the mound
for the Blue Devils. He pitched 4.1 innings allowing 14 hits and
nine runs to fall to 0-1 on the season. Donny White pitched 1.2
inning without allowing a run or a hit. He struck out one.
Warren Sternberg pitched the final two innings allowing only one
hit and one run while striking out two.
Tri had two hits in the game. Senior Jay Schillaci and Anthony
Scialdone each had a hit for the Blue Devils.
Wagner scored three runs in the second inning and five more in the
fourth inning to open an 8-1 lead. Another run in the fifth made
it 9-1. A single run in the bottom of the seventh inning finished
the scoring for the home team.
The Blue Devils and Seahawks will play two games on Saturday
beginning at 12 p.m.
