Blue Devils back in action on Wednesday at Quinnipiac
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team dropped to 0-7 overall with an 18-3 home loss to Jacksonville on Saturday afternoon in New Britain. With the victory the Dolphins are now 5-4 overall on the season.
The Blue Devils will be back in action on the road at Quinnipiac on Wednesday a 5 p.m. The road game begins a four-game road swing for the Blue Devils that also includes a rescheduled contest at Lafayette on April 4. Central will then open Northeast Conference play with a pair of road games at Wagner and Mount St. Mary's.
The Dolphins scored the game's first 12 goals before Central senior Madison Hughes put the Blue Devils on the board just before half to make it 12-1 at the break.
Classmate Falynn McCartney took a pass from junior Jessica Giangarra and cut the lead to 12-2 less than three minutes into the second half.
Jacksonville answered, however, and scored twice to make it 14-2, before junior Marissa Soto scored to cut the lead to 14-3. The Dolphins scored the final four goals of the game to pick up their fifth victory of the season.
Freshman goalkeeper Jackie Branthover made nine saves in net for the Blue Devils in the loss. Hughes, McCartney and Soto each scored. Hughes now leads the Blue Devils with 10 goals and 16 points on the season. The goal for McCartney was her eighth, good for second on the team. Soto's goal was her fifth.
