Women's Lacrosse Falls to Sacred Heart on Friday in Home Finale
Blue Devils will play at LIU Brooklyn on Sunday in the season finale
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse team dropped its final home game of the season, losing 13-10 to Sacred Heart in Northeast Conference action at Arute Field. CCSU is now 3-12 overall and 2-4 in NEC play. The Pioneers are 8-6 overall and 4-2 in league action.
Central is back in action on Sunday on the road at LIU Booklyn beginning at 12 p.m.
Central scored the first three goals of the game to take a 3-0 lead just over seven minutes into the game. Senior Madison Hughes scored twice and freshman Jenna Henningsen scored the game's first goal to give the Blue Devils the early lead.
The Pioneers scored twice to cut the lead to 3-2, but the Blue Devils answered with two straight to take a 5-2 lead with 10:37 left in the first half. Freshman Carson Adelberger scored her sixth goal of the season and then Hughes scored her third of the game to push the lead to three.
The Pioneers scored twice in the next four minutes to cut the lead to one, but Henningsen scored her second goal of the game to make it 6-4 with four minutes left in the first. Senior Elyse Malecki assisted on the goal. The Blue Devils led 6-4 at the half.
Sacred Heart scored the first four goals of the second half to take 8-6 with 17:06 on the clock.
Henningsen scored her third goal of the game off an assist from sophomore Kyle Sullivan to stop the Sacred Heart run and cut the lead to 8-7. The pair teamed up again with 11:37 left in the second half to tie the game 8-8. The goal was the fourth for Henningsen.
Sacred Heart responded less than a minute later pushing the lead to 8-7 on a goal Averi Farhat. Junior Marissa Soto's goal tied the game again, 9-9, with 9:51 to play.
Alyssa Pearce scored for the Pioneers to make it 10-9 with under eight minutes to play. Kylie Calandra scored with 3:40 left on the clock to give Sacred Heart a two-goal edge, 11-9. Another goal with under three minutes made it 12-9.
Senior Falynn McCartney scored her first goal of the game, on an assist from Hughes, to make it 12-10 with 2:17 to play. Caitlin Delaney's fourth goal made it 13-10 with 1:28 left on the clock.
The Blue Devils are back in action on Sunday at LIU Brooklyn beginning at 12 p.m.
