Women's Lacrosse Falls on the Road at Colorado on Saturday
Blue Devils will play at Lafayette on Wednesday
The Central Connecticut women's lacrosse fell to 0-3 on the season with a 15-3 loss on the road at Colorado on Saturday afternoon. Colorado, who is receiving votes in this week's Inside Lacrosse national poll, is now 5-1 overall on the season.
Senior Falynn McCartney scored twice and added an assist for the Blue Devils in the loss. Freshman Jackie Branthover played all 60 minutes in goal, making a career-high 15 saves.
Junior Marissa Soto added her first goal of the season for the Blue Devils. She added five draw controls, two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls.
McCartney is now tied for the team lead in goals (3) on the season. With her three point effort she is now four points shy of 100 career points, trying to become the ninth player in program history to reach that mark. She is tied for 10th all-time with 96 career points.
On Saturday the Blue Devils scored the first goal of the game before Colorado scored the last 10 goals of the first half to take a 10-1 lead. McCartney's first goal of the game cut the lead to 10-2 to begin the second half. Central held the Buffs to just three goals in the final 17+ minutes after McCartney scored her second goal of the half.
The Blue Devils continue their four-game road string to open the season on Wednesday when they play on the road at Lafayette. Central will then open the home portion of its schedule on Saturday hosting Iona at 1 p.m. They will play four straight home games following their four-game stretch to open the year.
