Softball Stopped at Sacred Heart in Tuesday Doubleheader
The Central Connecticut softball team dropped two games to the Sacred Heart Pioneers in a Northeast Conference matchup on Tuesday.

Kaylee Whittaker (11-7) suffered her seventh loss of the season after going the distance for The Blue Devils, allowing seven hits and three runs in 7.0 innings. The Blue Devils loan hit came from Paige Stringer who singled in the final inning.
Liz Hamilton (9-4) suffered her fourth loss of the season after going the distance for her team. Hamilton gave up seven hits and three runs in 9.2 innings of work. Central Connecticut tallied six hits and three runs in 9.2 innings. Kassandra (KC) Machado led the Blue Devils with a double and two RBIs, Grace Lawton had two hits on the day as well.

BOTTOM 2ND: Sacred Heart scored their first run off a bases-loaded walk drawn by Jenna Mowad to take a 1-0 lead.
BOTTOM 5TH: Sacred Heart picked up two insurance runs with a two-RBI double and The Pioneers took a 3-0 lead.
KEY MOMENTS – GAME TWO
TOP 8TH: Meghan Gorman and Paige Stringer reached base with singles to bring up KC Machado with two outs. Machado roped a double to left field to bring home Stringer and Gorman and CCSU took a 2-0 lead.
BOTTOM 8TH: The Pioneer leadoff hitter was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Another SHU batter reached first on an error to put runners on first and second. A pinch-hit double scored both runs to tie the game at two. With the bases loaded and two outs, Samantha Kowalski sent a shot out to left field but Ashlyn Desaulniers ran it down and made a game-saving diving catch to send The Blue Devils into the eighth.
BOTTOM 10TH: The ghost runner on second base was moved over via a sacrifice bunt from a Pioneer. Nicole Henke hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score the winning run and come away with the sweep.
NOTES:
The Blue Devils lead the all-time series 25-20 but have dropped their last three dating back to 2023.
