Hamilton Named NEC Softball Rookie of the Week
Liz Hamilton of the Central Connecticut softball team was named Northeast Conference Softball Rookie of the Week on Tuesday. Ava Cino and KC Machado joined Hamilton on the league's list of Prime Performers.
LIZ HAMILTON (FR, P): Last Week 11 IP, 2-0, 0.64 ERA, 1 BB, 11 K
- Earned her eighth win of the season after coming on in relief in a 6-5 win over Army.
- Gave up four hits and one earned run through 6.0 innings in the 10-inning win.
- Dominant in an 8-0 victory over Merrimack on Saturday in game two.
- Earned her ninth win of the season after going the distance. Gave up just two hits with one walk in the five-inning shutout.
KASSANDRA (KC) MACHADO (JR, 2B): Last Week .500 AVG, .529 OBP, 1.000 SLG
- Went 1-for-2 with an RBI in game one vs Army and 2-for-4 in game two.
- In an 8-0 victory over Merrimack, was 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs and two home runs.
- Added a hit and another RBI in the final game of the series vs Merrimack.
AVA CINO (SO, SS): Last Week .500 AVG, 5 RBIs, 3 2Bs
- In four games played and a pinch-hit appearance in game two of the Army doubleheader, she was 7-for-14 with 5 RBIs.
- She roped a pinch-hit double to right center to bring Central within one run vs Army in game two in the bottom of the 7th.
- Had three doubles, just two Ks, and a perfect fielding percentage at shortstop.
The Blue Devils are at Sacred Heart on Tuesday and Wednesday.
