Softball Takes Two from Wagner in Saturday Doubleheader
The Central Connecticut softball team tallied two victories over Wagner in Staten Island New York on Saturday.

Kaylee Whittaker (9-5) earned her ninth win of the season after going the distance for The Blue Devils, allowing just two hits and one run in 7.0 innings. The Blue Devils tallied seven hits and scored seven runs on seven RBI. Paige Stringer led the way with two hits and an RBI. Ava Cino and KC Machado combined for five RBIs including a backbreaking three-run homerun from Machado.
Adrianna Green (3-3) earned her third win of the season after going the distance for her team. Green gave up six hits and one earned run through five innings in the victory. Grace Lawton, Sophia Lopiccolo, Stringer, and Cino each had two hits and combined for four RBIs. Meg Gorman had four RBIs in the game and KC Machado homered for the second time to plate two for her team.

KEY MOMENTS – GAME ONE
TOP 1ST: Meg Gorman led off the inning with a walk, Reagan Vunak put down a sacrifice bunt and Stringer beat out an infield single to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Ava Cino brought home Gorman with a sacrifice fly and CCSU led 1-0.
TOP 3RD: The Blue Devils took a 2-0 lead after Paige Stringer reached on a fielder's choice and Gorman sped around the diamond to score from second.
TOP 5TH: Ava Cino laced a single to left field that plated Vunak. With two runners on, KC Machado blasted a home run over the left field fence and gave Central a 6-0 advantage.
TOP 6TH: With one out and nobody on Grace Lawton laced a homerun to extend the Blue Devils lead to 7-0.
BOTTOM 7TH: The Seahawks scored their lone run in the last inning on a bases-loaded walk from Jordan Dulken.
KEY MOMENTS – GAME TWO
TOP 2ND: Meg Gorman plated Central's first three runs of the game with a bases-clearing double.
TOP 3RD: Central blew the game open in the third inning with five runs and five hits. Ashlyn Desaulniers brought home Stringer with a sacrifice fly, Lawton then doubled and LoPiccolo also doubled in the inning to plate Abigail Mitchell and Machado. Meg Gorman gave CCSU a commanding 8-0 with a base hit to left field.
BOTTOM 3RD: The Seahawks got two back to cut Centrals lead to six (8-2) with two runs on two hits, one error, and one runner left on base.
TOP 4TH: Ava Cino singled to right field to plate the first run of the inning scoring Stringer. KC Machado put the game out of reach with a no-doubter to left field that catapulted Central to an 11-2 lead.
NUMBERS TO KNOW:
200 – Head Coach Breanne Gleason notched her 200th career win after the doubleheader sweep.
150 – Paige Stringer tallied her 150th career hit in game one of the doubleheader.
