Hunt Named NEC Track Athlete of the Week
Senior Craig Hunt earns the honor after an impressive performance in the 10,000m run this past weekend at the Stanford Invitational.
Senior Craig Hunt of the Central Connecticut men's track and field team was named NEC Track Athlete of the Week for his impressive performance in the 10,000m run at the Stanford Invitational on Friday, the conference announced Tuesday.
The honor marks Hunt's fourth NEC weekly honor during the 2013-14 school year after the senior earned three NEC Athlete of the Week awards for his cross country performance this past fall.
Hunt showed record-breaking potential while contesting the 10,000m run at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, CA. The veteran harrier completed the race in 29:31.87 to immediately make himself the favorite to capture the NEC crown when the conference championships commence at Robert Morris University during the first weekend in May.
Hunt produced the 44th-fastest time in NCAA Division I this season and currently ranks 17th overall on the East Region leader board as a result. The time, which is more than 1:30 under the IC4A Championship qualifying standard, is fractions of a second off the NEC Championship meet record (29:31.29) set by collegiate record holder Samuel Chelanga in 2007.
The Blue Devils are scheduled to return to action this Saturday, April 12, at UMass and Bucknell.
