Former Men's Soccer Coach Webster Elected to Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fame

Former Central Connecticut men's soccer head coach and Alumni Athletics Hall of Fame member John Webster will be inducted into the Connecticut Soccer Hall of Fame on Saturday, Jan. 26. The latest group of inductees includes six individuals who have contributed to the growth and history of the game of soccer in Connecticut.
Webster was inducted into the CCSU Alumni Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004 and founded the CCSU club soccer team before taking on the task of building the program during his 16-year tenure as head coach of the Blue Devils (1969-84). He recorded a career mark of 107-92-24, a winning percentage of .534. He led the program to five consecutive winning seasons in the early 1980's and helped the team climb as high as No. 9 in the NCAA Division II national rankings in 1984. During his time in charge at CCSU, Webster developed student-athletes who earned All-America and All-New England honors. He also hired notable assistant coaches at Central, including Hall of Famers Tony DiCicco and Frantz Innocent, and former NASL goalkeeper Tad Delorm.
Webster was the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's Director of Film Library (1983-1985), NSCAA Ethics Committee member (1984), Site Coordinator for the NEISL All Star Soccer Game (1982-83), New England Ratings Board and National Ratings Board Member (1982-83), and served on the NCAA Championship Selection Committee (1983-84). Webster is also a member of the Old Timers Athletic Association of Greater Danbury (2005) and he received the CCSU Presidential Recognition Award on "Coach Webster Day" in 2000.
Webster is among a group of six members to be honored with induction into the Hall of Fame, other honorees include Greg Andrulis, JP Dellacamera, Erhardt Kapp, Rudolph Meredith and Kathryn Schoepher. The induction dinner, which is open to the public, will take place on Jan. 26, at the Red Lion Hotel, 100 Berlin Road, Cromwell. Tickets are $50 per person, and $25 for youths 12 and under.
