Men's Soccer Suffers Setback to Bryant on Senior Day
The Blue Devils honored their seven seniors prior to the game.
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought contest to Bryant, 1-0, on Senior Day on Saturday at CCSU Soccer Field. Prior to the game, Central recognized seniors Louis Beddouri, Sebastian Calderon, Carson D'Ambrosio, Danny LoBello, Quentin Lux, Rodrigo Giraldo Salvador and James Thompkins.
The Blue Devils finish their season at 1-13-1 overall.
Central nearly opened the scoring in the 16th minute. Freshman Larson Richards picked up the ball along the right wing and sent a low cross in that just missed connecting with freshman Panos Ravanis who was cutting unmarked through the six-yard area.
Bryant took the lead nearly 10 minutes later when Felipe Cypriano drew a foul inside the CCSU penalty box. Cypriano would convert the penalty to make it 1-0 at the 24:28 mark. Central was shown a red card on the play and was forced to play a man down for the final 65 minutes.
Despite being shorthanded, the Blue Devils would keep the game close. In the 59th minute, Cypriano broke in on goal and got off a shot, but freshman Nate Howard came out and got a hand up to deflect the shot away.
Just over 12 minutes later, CCSU would get a chance after senior Louis Beddouri was fouled to the ground in the penalty area. The referee awarded a penalty kick to the Blue Devils, but Bryant's Olivier Larente dove to his right to make a save on the ensuing shot and stave of CCSU's best chance.
The teams finished with eight shots each, while Howard finished with three saves for CCSU. D'Ambrosio made one save for Central as well, while Larente finished the day with two saves.
