Men's Soccer Lands Three on All-Region
Reece Wilson, Thomas Obasi, and Mamoudou Dioubate all earned NSCAA All-North Atlantic honors on Friday.
Three members of the Central Connecticut men's soccer team were named All-North Atlantic Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America on Friday. Juniors Reece Wilson, Thomas Obasi and Mamoudou Dioubateall were recognized by the NSCAA for their outstanding play this season.
Wilson, Obasi and Dioubate were key contributors in Central's return to the Northeast Conference Tournament and regular season Tri-Championship in 2011.
"I am so pleased for Reece, Mamoudou and Thomas. Collectively and individually, they were tremendously instrumental in the rebound of our program-back to the top of the NEC this year," said Coach Shaun Green, who just completed his 27th season at the helm of the men's soccer program.
Wilson, a native of London, England, earned first team All-North Atlantic honors at the forward position. He led Central's offense this past season with team-highs in points (15) and goals (6). He also recorded three assists.
Dioubate, a defender, earned third team recognition along with Obasi who earned a spot at the midfield position.
Obasi, a Birmingham, England, native, brought game changing ball skills to New Britain in his first season. Often drawing the most attention from opposing defenses, Obasi still totaled eight points on three goals and a pair of assists.
Dioubate, a Queens, NY, native, was named a captain before ever suiting up for the Blue Devils. On the field, his leadership was visable, he led a defensive line that allowed only 1.2 goals per game. He also scored a goal and assisted on another during the campaign.
"Reece scored key goals in pivotal games this season, Mamoudou brought passion and leadership and Thomas rapidly developed a reputation with his uncanny skills and dribbling ability," Green added. "As a program, we are all proud of their selection to the regional team, they deserve it."
The Central Connecticut men's soccer team captured a share of the NEC Regular Season title in 2011 and reached the NEC Tournament for the first time since the 2007 season. They posted a 10-8-1 overall record and 21 points in conference play.
