84th & 96th Minute Goals Lift CCSU
Thomas Obasi delivered the golden goal in overtime to send the Blue Devils home victorious.
Junior Reece Wilson scored in the 84th minute to tie the game at 1-1. Junior Thomas Obasi finished the game in the 96th minute with a golden goal that gave the Blue Devils a 2-1 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson. The victory gives the Blue Devils a 9-8 record on the season and a 6-3 mark in Northeast Conference action.
FDU's Nico Wright scored for the Knights in the 5th minute of the game. Wright scored off a one-on-one with junior keeper Anthony Occhialini. Occhialini stopped the first shot, but Wright grabbed the rebound and scored to give his team the lead.
The Knights led for more than 75 minutes, until Wilson found the net.
Wilson moved down the rightside of the field and then shot back across the net and beat the keeper into the lower left corner. That strike came with only six minutes left in the game.
Six minutes into overtime he contributed to the go ahead goal with a pass to Obasi. Obasi took the ball and delivered the golden goal into the lower left corner of the net.
Occhialini was solid in the net. He posted four saves and allowed only one goal in 95 plus minutes of action. He improved to 9-6 in the net on the season.
The victory gives the Blue Devils 18 points on the season. That ties them with Monmouth for the most in the NEC. If the regular season ends with those two teams tied atop the standings, the Blue Devils hold the head-to-head advantage, having defeated Monmouth earlier this season.
The Blue Devils host St. Francis (NY) on Friday in their final regular season match of the season.
