Men's Basketball Recognized With NABC Honors
Central Connecticut men's basketball head coach Patrick Sellers, along with Jordan Jones and Allan Jeanne-Rose were recognized by the NABC it was announced on Tuesday. Sellers was named the District 15 Coach of the Year, while Jones was named NABC Division I All-District 15 First Team and Jeanne-Rose was named to the Second Team. The All-District honors are voted on by NABC-member coaches across NCAA Division I.
In his third season at the helm of the Blue Devils, Sellers guided CCSU a share of the Northeast Conference regular season title and the top seed in the NEC Tournament. The Blue Devils went 20-11 overall, posting its most wins since the 2006-07 season (22-12). With a 13-3 record in conference play, CCSU finished atop the league standings tied with Merrimack. The Blue Devils posted non-conference wins at Fordham and UMass Lowell, while defeating NEC champion, Wagner, twice during the season. CCSU posted three win streaks of three-or-more games during the season. Central was the top seed in the league tournament for the first time since 2006-07.
Jones started 29 games for the Blue Devils after arriving from Coker University. A All-Northeast Conference Second Team pick, he led CCSU in assists (113) and steals (57), while posting 13.1 ppg and 3.5 rpg. He poured in a career-high 33 points in a win over Sacred Heart on Feb. 8. Jones was named NEC Player of the Week on two occasions and scored his 1,000th career point in a win over LIU on Feb. 29.
Jeanne-Rose started 30 games for the Blue Devils after transferring from Fairfield. He led CCSU in scoring at 15.4 ppg, while shooting 54.8 percent from the field. He scored in double-figures 25 times, including seven games with 20+ points. He posted a career-best 28 points in the NEC Quarterfinal win over Saint Francis U, while collecting a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds at Boston College. He was named NEC Player of the Week on Jan. 17.
