Rissanen attended Mäkelänrinne Upper Secondary School, while playing for head coach Aapo Heinonen with Tapiolan Honka. While with Tapiolan Honka, Rissanen helped the team win Finland's First Division and gain promotion to Korisliiga, the highest level league in Finland.
"We are extremely happy to welcome Matias to the Blue Devils family," said Sellers. "He is a very good shooter and is a forward who can space the floor. He has a very high basketball IQ and we look forward to the positive contributions he will bring to the program."
