Women's XC Fifth at Ted Owen; Eberhardt Eighth
The CCSU women's cross country team finished fifth at the Ted Owen Invitational.
The Central Connecticut women's cross country team finished fifth out of 16 teams at the 12th Annual Ted Owen Invitational on Saturday. The 5k race was hosted by the Blue Devils at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT and had 148 total competitors. Senior Elizabeth Eberhardt crossed the finish line first for CCSU with an eighth place finish and a time of 18:09.19.
Seven runners competed for the Blue Devils in the meet. Eberhardt's eighth place finish was highlighted at a 5:51 pace. Finishing right behind Eberhardt were classmates Krisztina Dearborn and Shannon McBride. Dearborn finished 18th overall with a time of 18:44.35 while McBride finished 22nd with a time of 19:05.05.
Rounding out the scoring for CCSU were Junior Ally Gates and senior Taylor LePage. Gates finished 34th with a time of 19:32.81 and LePage finished 47th with a time of 20:10.66.
Also running for the Blue Devils were freshman Victoria Cronin and junior Jazmin Booker finishing 54th and 58th respectively. Cronin crossed the finish line with a time of 20:25.95 and Booker finished at the 20:36.15 mark.
CCSU placed fifth out of 16 teams with 129 total points and an average team time of 19:08.41. Rounding out the other teams in the top five were Boston University in first place with 33 points followed by Sacred Heart (62), Saint Francis P.A. (95) and Bryant (116).
Wagner (180), Temple (204), Mount St. Mary's (206), Robert Morris (214) and Southern Connecticut St. (309) finished in the next five slots to round out the top-ten.
Finishing in the last six spots were St. Francis N.Y. in 11th with 339 total points followed by New Haven (347), Fairleigh Dickinson (372), LIU Brooklyn (390), NJIT (421) and CCNY (507).
The race featured all 10 teams from the Northeast Conference in what may serve as a preview for the Northeast Conference Championships which will also be hosted by the Blue Devils at Stanley Quarter Park on Saturday Nov. 1. Out of the NEC teams CCSU placed fourth behind Sacred Heart, St. Francis (PA) and Bryant.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 11 for their next meet when they travel to Boston, MA for the 2014 New England Championships.
