Volleyball Tops N.C. Central, 3-0
The Central Connecticut volleyball team defeated North Carolina Central in straight sets on Friday afternoon. The 3-0 victory improved the Blue Devils to 2-2 on the season. Central took sets 25-10, 25-20 and 25-20 to earn the victory.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team defeated North Carolina Central in straight sets on Friday afternoon. The 3-0 victory improved the Blue Devils to 2-2 on the season. Central took sets 25-10, 25-20 and 25-20 to earn the victory. The win also puts the Blue Devils at 1-0 in the four team round-robin George Washington Tournament.
The Blue Devils scored early building a 5-0 lead, behind a pair of aces from senior Danielle Gasser and three N.C. Central errors. The lead was eventually cut to 10-7, but the Blue Devils pulled away from that point, ending the game on a 15-3 run. Gasser finished the set with six assists, four aces and three kills to lead the Blue Devil offense.
Central took the second game 25-20, in a closely played set. The Blue Devils led 21-20 before scoring four unanswered points to take the match. Junior Emily Cochran contributed three kills in the set. Gasser added to her totals, with another seven assists and three kills.
The final set of the match was as close as the second. This time the Blue Devils scored the final five points of the match for the 25-20 victory. Cochran severed the final four points of the match, which were punctuated by a kill from junior Jamie Rademacher that sealed the set and match. Rademacher finished the set with three kills.
Cochran finished with seven kills in the match, Gasser added six and Rademacher and senior Sara DeLacey each had five. Gasser also contributed 25 assists to the effort. On defense, Rademacher and DeLacey teamed up for three blocks.
The Blue Devils will return to action tomorrow with a pair of games at the George Washington Tournament. They will play UNC-Wilmington at 10 a.m. tomorrow and then later in the day Central will square off with George Washington.
