Hertzog, Norstrom Earn NEC Weekly Honors
Junior Ryan Hertzog and freshman Alex Norstrom picked up NEC weekly awards after helping lead the Blue Devils to a first place team finish at the CCSU Mini Meet last Friday.
Junior Ryan Hertzog and freshman Alex Norstrom of the Central Connecticut men's cross country team earned Northeast Conference weekly awards after helping lead the Blue Devils to a first place team finish last Friday at the CCSU Mini Meet. Hertzog won the CCSU Mini Meet and was named the NEC Athlete of the Week, while Norstrom finished 16th overall and earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors.
Competing in the final race before the NEC Championships, Hertzog took home gold on his home course in New Britain, CT, at the CCSU Mini Meet this past Friday. Hertzog, now a three-time NEC Athlete of the Week, led the field of 119 racers over the 5K course as he crossed the finish line with a time of 15:05.4. The junior helped the Blue Devils - who had five finishers in the top 25 - secure a first place team finish with a 19-point victory over Big East competitor Providence.
Norstrom, a four-time NEC Rookie of the Week, was the first NEC freshman to cross the finish line this past Friday at the CCSU Mini Meet. The rookie covered the 5K course at Stanley Quarter Park in 15:29.5 to place 16th out of 119 racers and earn Rookie of the Week honors.
Hertzog, Norstrom and the rest of the Central Connecticut men's cross country team next prepares for the 2015 Northeast Conference Championships to be held at Bryant University this coming weekend. The men's 8K race is slated for an 11:00 a.m. start.
