Hertzog, Trainor Earn NEC Cross Country Weekly Awards
Junior Ryan Hertzog and freshman Austin Trainor were named the NEC XC Co-Athlete and Rookie of the Week, respectively, after leading the Blue Devils to a 24th place finish this past Saturday at the New England Championships.
Junior Ryan Hertzog and freshman Austin Trainor earned Northeast Conference Cross Country Weekly Awards for their respective performances this past Saturday at the New England Championships. Hertzog was named the NEC Co-Athlete of the Week and Trainor was tabbed the NEC Rookie of the Week, the league front office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Hertzog, who picks up his second Athlete of the Week honor so far this season, paced the Blue Devils this past Saturday at the New England Championships in Boston, MA with a seventh place overall finish out of 252 total runners. He completed the 8K course at Franklin Park with a time of 24:47.7, which marks the fastest 8K time in the conference this fall.
Trainor earns his first NEC Rookie of the Week award after crossing the finish line second for the Blue Devils in 80th place out of 252 competitors at the New England Championships. The freshman navigated the course in 25:53.0 to earn the result.
Hertzog, Trainor and the rest of the CCSU men's cross country team will return to action in two weeks as they return home on Friday, October 23 for the CCSU Mini Meet. The meet will be held at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT and is scheduled to kickoff at 4 p.m.
