Men's Cross Country Sixth At Nassaney Invitational Saturday
Junior Ryan Hertzog finish eighth overall to lead the Blue Devils to a sixth place overall finish at the Nassaney Memorial Race on Saturday in Smithfield, RI.
Junior Ryan Hertzog earned an eighth place overall finish to lead the Central Connecticut men's cross country team to a sixth place team finish at the Shawn M. Nassaney Memorial Race on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Bryant University in Smithfield, RI. The 5K meet featured 100 student-athletes from 11 different teams, including seven of the eight NEC schools that participate in men's cross country.

Hertzog paced the Blue Devils with his eighth place finish, crossing the finish line with a time of 15:04. Reigning Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, Alex Norstrom, was the next Blue Devil to cross the finish line, coming in 38th with a final time of 16:02.
Junior's Derek French and Malcolm Connor followed Norstrom with 41st and 42nd place finishes respectively. French clocked in a time of 16:08 and Connor was right behind him finishing with a time of 16:09.
Freshman Kevin Rivera rounded out the field for CCSU, picking up a 58th place overall finish with a time of 16:37. In total, Central combined for a team score of 187 with an average time of 16:00 to record the sixth place overall team finish.
Providence College earned the victory at the Nassaney Memorial Race, logging a team score of just 36. Brown was second with a score of 63 followed by Boston U (77), Northeastern (108) and Sacred Heart (128) to round out the top-five. CCSU was sixth with 187 points ahead of host team Bryant (201), Rhode Island (222), St. Francis Brooklyn (245), Mount St. Mary's (265), and Fairleigh Dickinson (294) to round out the entire field.
The course the Blue Devils and rest of the NEC teams competed on on Saturday at Bryant University will also serve as this years course for the 2015 Northeast Conference Championships on Oct. 31. Sacred Heart led the NEC schools at the meet behind the first place overall individual finish of Sean Ferguson. The Blue Devils were right behind SHU and will look to improve to defend their NEC title and go for seven-straight NEC Championships at the end of October.
The CCSU men's cross country team will return to action in two weeks on Saturday, Sept. 26 as they return to New Britain, CT and host the Ted Owen Invitation at Stanley Quarter Park. The men's race is scheduled to kickoff at 12 noon.
