Rossomando has announced that seniors Dan Hebert and Brenden Lytton and juniors Najae Brown and Randall Laguerre will be the four captains for the upcoming season.
"These four players were picked because they embody what it means to play football at Central Connecticut," Rossomando said. "Each has proven to have what it takes to be successful at this level, and leads by example each and every day. During their careers they have performed both on the field and in the classroom. During preseason camp they have led this team from day one. That showed, and that's why each was chosen."
The four captains were chosen by a vote of the players and the coaching staff.
"We chose four captains, but I have been tremendously impressed with the leadership of the entire team during the last three weeks, and really since we finished the 2015 season," Rossomando added. "We had a great spring and a hard working and productive summer, and that has to do with the entire attitude and dedication of the entire team."
Hebert is the leading returning receiver from a year ago and is a captain for the second straight season. He posted 22 catches for 233 yards and four touchdowns as a junior last season.
Lytton, who missed last season with an injury, rushed for 438 yards and four touchdowns two years ago. He averaged 5.3 yards per rush and had his best game at home vs. Sacred Heart when he rushed for 193 yards on 30 carries and scored twice.
LaGuerre led the Blue Devils in tackles a season ago posting 92 stops in 11 games played. He had 55 solo tackles and 14 for a loss, including one sack. He also had an interception and two forced fumbles.
Brown was just behind LaGuerre in tackles with 88, including 50 solo, and three for a loss. He had one sack and led the team with three interceptions and also broke up two passes. He also returned kicked, running one back for a touchdown in the home game vs. St. Francis U on November 7 of last season.
The Blue Devils open the season on Friday night, September 2, hosting Lafayette at 6 p.m. at Arute Field. Fans can watch the game live on NEC Front Row, and listen live on News Radio 1410 in Hartford, and online using the iHeart app on your mobile device.
